The 37th year of M Street Softball gets underway next week with a partial schedule of games beginning on Tuesday, May 1st.
As of this writing, the league has sixteen teams competing for the title this year. Two other teams are still looking to join
and have until Wednesday evening to pay the league fee. In any case, one has to go all the way back to the 1981 season, when softball
was very popular and everyone wanted to play, to find this many teams involved. With that said, the league is very grateful to those coaches,
players, and umpires, who continue to participate in the greatest softball league in the state. Below is a list of those who have given
their blood, sweat, and maybe a few tears to the league while often getting little or nothing in return.
Players: John Gregorio (22 years), Bobby Dobay (20 years), Mark Senna (19 years), Brendan Flynn (14 years), Steve Muldowney (13 years), Brian Ahearn (13 years), Paul Gurley (12 years), Charles Zaniboni (10 years), Mike Whitney (10 years), and Peter Hourihan (10 years). Coaches: Mark Senna (19 years), Peter Hourihan (10 years), Marc Cerone (3 years), Joe Pillar (3 years), Mike Sweeney (3 years), Paul Gurley (2 years), Eric Romiza (2 years), Dave Conti (2 years), John Silva (2 years), Danny Ekasela (2 years), and Tom Yeo (2 years). Umpires: Chuck Feltch (the former player who is now a top umpire has been associated with the league since the early 1980's), Earl Garret (3 years), and Chuck Allen (2 years). Next week's schedule is a limited one as the Brewers, L Street Tavern, Lynx, and the Dorset Club will be off sharpening their skills. League games will be played on both M & N Street fields so please take note on where and when your game is being played. |
