One song keeps blaring from the juke box at the Bayside Club these day. It's 'Ain't no stopping us now.' And as of now, ther's no one in the American Division of the M Street Softball League that can dispute that claim. The Baysiders convinced any doubters last week when theytore apart Canavan's Pub, shutting them out in their battle for first place, part one. Part two is tonight when Bayside and Canavan's hook up in a rematch. The victory ran Baysides streak to 11 straight, giving them a comfortable advantage towards winning its second consecutive pennant in the American loop. In the National circuit, the defending champs are starting to cool off any pretenders. Triple O's has wrestled away first place from Old Towne Tavern, using it's main ingredient, 'The Rifleman', to stop the Connelly Club, 9-5, and then fired up Old Harbor, 8-1. But there'll be no relaxing for any of five teams shooting for the playoffs. Triple O's is a loss away from dropping out of the top four as the YIP Club, Old Harbor, Rabbit Inn, and Old Towne will stage their own tournament to eliminate a capable team from entering post season play. In other games in the National loop, Shamrock Pub edged Connely's 7-2, and topped the Sam Moran Clun in the final inning, then had no juice left for Rabbit's who severely damaged Shamrock's hopes of a playoff berth. Rabbit's the uppity sleeping ginats, took out Manning's and Shamrock to maintain its designs on the playoffs. The YIP men held off Sam Moran 4-1, and then pummeled Connely's to jump to second place. Old Harbor did what they wanted to do; split a pair of toughies with Old Towne (winning 4-3) and Triple O's (losing 8-1). Don't lose two in a row in this league or it's 'wait until next year!' In game last week, Teamster's is causing rumbles at the Bayside Headquarters with a pair of wins over Murphy's and the 201 Club. Teamster's drawback, though, is having to play three games in each of the season's final two weeks. Canavan's stomped on Murphy's before getting the same treatment from teh Baysiders. Bayside also 'mohawked' the Haircutters 11-2. |
