This week the playoffs got underway with the top four teams squaring off in a best of five series.

The top four teams are the Sam Moran Club, who finished with a 16-5 record and was tied with Old Harbor A.C. Moran gets the nod because they defeated Old Harbor in two out of three meetings this year. The other two teams are court's Inn and Broadway Haircutters.

The first round should be well underway when this paper goes to press, but there will still be plenty of action going into the championship round starting Tuesday night as 7:30.

The Sam Moran Club is led by some vetrans along with a few good young players. John McGrath, Bobby Lero, and Jerry Etro set the example to follow for youngster's John Gregorio, Joe Magee, Charlie Joyce, and Ronnie Gurley. But of course no team can be complete without a coach and Sam Moran has been outstanding all season by working his team and the crowd.

The Sam Moran Club will have no easy task trying to win the playoffs. In the first round, they will face a very good team in Broadway Haircutters. Joey Ward, Chuck Wheeler, Mark Beale, Billy Curley, and Eddie Meagher will try to lead the haircutters to victory.

In the other series, Old Harbor, led by pitcher Billy Elliott, along with catcher Bobby Miller, Tim Buckley, and Rich Linehan will hav their hands full with Court's Inn especially if Larry Lucas retuns to the lineup. But even if not, Odl Harbor will have a hard time holding down players such as Larry Bavis, Brian Feeney, Eddie Mullen, and Brian Sweeney.

All in all, it should prove to be an outstanding playoffs featuring some excellent players.
