L STREET TAVERN MAKES IT FIVE IN A ROW

Game 4
September 11. Possibly the best game of the year. The Abbey led 1-0 until the top of the sixth inning when Tony Jiminez tied it with a lead off homerun to left field. Two batters later, Don Bolstad singled and scored what proved to be the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Dave Litif. The pitching was excellent on both sides as the batters were held to just ten hits.

Game 5
September 12. Again, solid pitching and great defense was the story tonight as the pitchers dominated for the second game in a row. Don Senna and Paul Alessi both held shutouts into the seventh inning. L Street scored the games only run in the bottom half of the seventh when Tony Jiminez led off with a double and scored on Alessi's (playoff MVP) single to right-center. The Abbey had three chances to score but could not come up with the big hit when they needed it.

I would like to congradulate each member of the L Street Tavern softball team on winning this year's championship. Although you made it look easy, a few clutch hits here and there, and the series could have easily gone the other way.

As the season came to an abrupt end, I was both relieved and a little disappointed. Releived because I can now fully concentrate on my studies and disappointed becuase I will miss the team camaraderie that carried us through the season and into the finals. It wasn't enough to win it this year, but there is always next year. Mostly, I will miss the socializing that went along with the game. On any given night, one could stop by the park and catch up with both old and new friends alike. I created a very friendly atmosphere.

In conclusion, I am very grateful to Janet, Bob Harvey, Terry & Carrie, Tribune staff & readers, and finally, the fans. Without you, the games would seem meaningless. Starting in October, look here for the South Boston Men's Hockey League.
