The Sam Moran Club finally put away the stubborn Sidewalk Cafe 10-3 to capture the M Street Softball League championship series this past Monday. As hundreds of spectators sat in the stands with anticipation of a close scoring game, the Moran Club lit up the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning ending many hopes. The onslaught began with a walk to leadoff hitter Brendan Flynn, followed by a single by Ronny Gurley. First baseman Jimmt Burgio then tripled down the right field line scoring Flynn and Gurley and the Moran Club were off and running. The hitting attack continued as the boys in blue batted around the order of their way to a nine-run inning and early control of the game. Moran would later add another run on a home run by Bobby McGarrell giving pitcher John Gregorio, who earned his fourth win of the series, more than enough run support. The Sidewalk Cafe, who had rallied to tie the series from a three game deficit, would like to rewrite the final chapter to their story book ending. Their downfall began when they committed five errors which aided Moran in their nine run first inning. Sidewalk's defense eventually settled down and played well enough to win but the offense then had its problems too, leaving the Sidewalk with little chance for another dramatic comeback.
Congratulations to al of the players and coaches of the Sam Moran Club. They are as follows:
